Ageeth Sluis is professor of Latin American history and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at Butler University, who works at the intersections of gender, space, and the history of the Americas. Her book Deco Body/Deco City: Spectacle and Modernity in Mexico City, 1900–1939 (2016) looks at how new ideas about femininity and female bodies influenced urban reform in Mexico’s capital city in the 1920s and 1930s. Other work has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Transnational American Studies, Journal of Urban History, and The Americas. She is currently working on Mexitopia, a book project that explores the history of anthropology, indigenismo, New Age spirituality and tourism to understand the power of place, especially popular imaginings of Mexico.
