NAU, NAU, DOH, CHAAR

Mae “NAU, NAU, DOH, CHAAR” (Wrdw ar gyfer 9924) yn arddangosfa ôl-weithredol gan yr artist amlddisgyblaethol Liaqat Rasul, wedi’i churadu gan Lewis Dalton Gilbert, sy’n dathlu esblygiad artistig rhyfeddol yr artist amlddisgyblaethol Liaqat Rasul.

Mae arddangosfa Tŷ Pawb yn dod adref i Rasul, gan ei fod yn ei ailgysylltu â’i wreiddiau a’i brofiadau cynnar. I Rasul, mae ei daith o fod yn ‘dresel ffenestr’ ifanc i fod yn artist sy’n cael ei harddangos yn arddangosfa Tŷ Pawb yn dyst i ddylanwad parhaol masnach ei deulu a’i dwf personol fel artist.

Mae’r arddangosfa’n rhoi cyfle unigryw iddo dalu gwrogaeth i’w wreiddiau wrth arddangos esblygiad ei fynegiant artistig. Mae enw'r arddangosfa yn deillio o'r flwyddyn 1999 pan drawsnewidiodd Rasul ei label ffasiwn, Ghulam Sakina, yn gwmni cyfyngedig. Mae’n olrhain yn fanwl lwybr ei daith artistig, o’i wreiddiau fel dylunydd ffasiwn â gweledigaeth i’r gwaith hawdd ei adnabod ac effaith sy’n ei ddiffinio heddiw.

NAU, NAU, DOH, CHAAR yn cael ei arddangos yn Tŷ Pawb tan 2 Tachwedd.

Gostyngodd ceiniog enfawr, trwm yn 2017, a dechreuodd Liaqat wneud collage a cherflunio cyfrwng cymysg. Mae RÔL bellach yn fforwm ar-lein sy'n ceisio cyflawni'r un peth.

Yn 2021, bu’n guradu Comisiynau Celf Hackney Windrush gyda Veronica Ryan OBE, Thomas J Price ac Alberta Whittle yn ogystal â’r rhaglen gyhoeddus gyd-ddigwyddiadol ac ar hyn o bryd ef yw curadur cyswllt New Art Centre, lle bu’n gwasanaethu fel cyfarwyddwr creadigol yn flaenorol.

NAU, NAU, DOH, CHAAR

“NAU, NAU, DOH, CHAAR” (Urdu for 9924) is a retrospective exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Liaqat Rasul, curated by Lewis Dalton Gilbert, celebrating the remarkable artistic evolution of multidisciplinary artist Liaqat Rasul.

The Tŷ Pawb exhibition serves as a homecoming for Rasul, as it reconnects him with his roots and early experiences. For Rasul, his journey from a young ‘window dresser’ to becoming an artist exhibited at Ty Pawb exhibition is a testament to the enduring influence of his family’s trade and his personal growth as an artist.

The exhibition provides him with a unique opportunity to pay homage to his roots while showcasing the evolution of his artistic expression. The exhibition derives its name from the year 1999 when Rasul transformed his fashion label, Ghulam Sakina, into a limited company. It meticulously traces the trajectory of his artistic journey, from his roots as a visionary fashion designer to the instantly recognisable and impactful work that defines him today.

NAU, NAU, DOH, CHAAR is on show at Tŷ Pawb until 2nd November.

Biographies

Liaqat Rasul is a gay welsh dyslexic Pakistani male. He was born in Feb 1974 in Wrexham, North Wales.

Liaqat studied fashion, gaining a first-class degree, specialising in textiles. He spent a year in industry, working and studying in New Delhi, India. Liberty's in Regent Street, London, bought his graduating collection, and he ran the business Ghulam Sakina for ten years, creating beautiful textile clothing. After Ghulam Sakina was liquidated in 2009, Liaqat decided to explore his life and career choices.

He worked at the Roxy Beaujolais - run pub the Seven Stars, in Carey Street, while exploring art exhibitions and public art. A huge, heavy penny dropped in 2017, and Liaqat started making mixed media collage and sculpture. This practice quickly developed and Liaqat now has work held in collections including Crafts Council collection, and now exhibits widely.

Lewis Dalton Gilbert is a freelance curator and the creative director at A Vibe Called Tech, focusing on the creative strategy, execution, and art direction within the company.

Following his BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design, he went on to coordinate and produce exhibitions and projects for White Cube and Frieze, two of the UK’s largest arts organisations. In 2016, he co-founded ROLE, a podcast created to discuss defining roles and strengthen communal bonds within underrepresented communities. ROLE now acts as an online forum seeking to achieve the same.

In 2021, he curated the Hackney Windrush Art Commissions with Veronica Ryan OBE, Thomas J Price and Alberta Whittle as well as the coinciding public programme and is currently the associate curator for New Art Centre, where he previously served as creative director.

Marie-Anne McQuay is Curator Liverpool Biennial 2025 and on secondment as Director of Projects, Arts&Heritage. Previously she was Head of Programme at the Bluecoat, Liverpool (2015 – 2022) where she curated exhibitions by Larissa Sansour, Adham Faramawy, Suki Chan, Jade Montserrat, Jonathan Baldock, Elaine Mitchener, Rosa-Johan Uddoh, Sumuyya Khader & Grace Ndiritu.
