When the lamps go out and only candles remain, the house begins to whisper. Step through the door if you dare, for the past has a way of holding on once it finds you.On Thursday, October 23, the Meux Home Museum presents the 4th annual Candlelight Mourning Tour. After dark, one of Fresno’s last surviving Gilded Age homes will be lit only by candles as guests are guided through the strange and fascinating rituals of Victorian mourning. Black crepe at the door, mirrors shrouded in fabric, jewelry woven with the hair of the departed, each detail a glimpse into a world where grief was ceremony.
This is not a haunted house filled with screams. It is something far more compelling, an intimate encounter with the way Victorians honored death, a history that lingers long after the last flame fades.
By joining us, you step into history and help preserve it. All proceeds support the Meux Home Museum, one of Fresno’s last Gilded Age treasures.
