Instructors: Rosie Edgerly, Cary LaMay, and Alex James.
Rosie Edgerly has been working with young people since she started as a dance teacher in 2017. She began improv with Mettlesome in 2022 and has been an active performer and creator since. She is a former middle school science teacher with experience in sketch acting and writing, in addition to improv. Apart from comedy, Rosie enjoys starting books but never finishing them, when a stranger decides to "pay it forward" in the drive through line, and rooting for the Detroit Lions of course. Catch Rosie on Friday nights performing with Mettlesome's Hush Hush.
Cary LaMay has been teaching improv since 2011. He has performed in both shortform and longform improv at various venues and festivals across the East Coast. Since 2017, he has served as a judge at the North Carolina High School Improv Competition.
Cary has taught improv to groups both young and old including a Pre-K class, Girl Scouts, college students, and corporate employees. His greatest appreciation for improv lies in its ability to impart lessons such as listening, acceptance, and teamwork that can be applied to various aspects of life beyond the theater!
Alex James started performing improv when he was a high school freshman, in 2006. Since then he’s been a the coach of East Chapel Hill High’s Randomax improv group and an improv instructor at Playmaker’s Summer Youth Conservatory’s TheatreQuest and a performer across North Carolina, most notability with Appalachian State’s improv team NouN. He can be seen most Fridays stirring up trouble at Mettlesome in the show Hush Hush.
