Multi-award winning solo performer Nicholas Collett presents “Mettle” – a celebration and commemoration of the Atlantic Convoys of World War Two.Drawing on conversations with his father (only revealed when his parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary) – and his service records – he charts his progress as a young man in one of the most dangerous theatres of war and contrasts all this with his personal relationship with the man he is proud to call “Dad”.
The story moves from Sheffield in the 1930’s through the outbreak of war, surviving U-Boat attacks and treacherous weather to the relative calm of West Africa – and even a Glenn Miller concert.
Told in a physical style, using sound and contemporary music to paint the scene, this is a true modern odyssey.
Nicholas Collett’s previous solo work includes “Spitfire Solo”, “Nelson – The Sailors’ Story”, “Your Bard”, “The Ghost Of A Smile”.
Written and performed by Nicholas Collett (British Arrows Best Actor, Special Performance Award World Duo Festival, Seoul South Korea, Best Theatre Award Adelaide Fringe 2023)
