Full Conference - 5th October, London, Euston
Sir Peter Hendy, Chairman of Network Rail, will be the keynote speaker at the conference Metroisation of the Railways: ConnectedCities.
Sir Peter has stated that a cultural change is required so that the railway becomes accustomed to operating the kind of service frequencies more commonly associated with a metro system.
His vision foreshadowed the new Government's Queen's Speech commitment to

Upgrades to urban commuter and regional services outside London

Midlands Rail Hub improved services in Birmingham and the West and East Midlands

Northern Powerhouse Rail

Reopening lines and stations closed under the Beeching cuts countrywide

The conference will highlight recent successful implementation of the latest technology to achieve the necessary upgrading, and also new sources of income that can be tapped by sharing in the uplift of land and house prices which arise from improved rail services.
The Government has committed to:

Build at least a million more homes over the Parliamentary period

£10 billion Single Housing Infrastructure fund

By working with local authorities, housebuilders and developers the rail industry has the opportunity to be seen as the national hero solving the triple crises of climate, NHS and housing. All three can be assisted by improved rail services at the heart of new development with integrated and active transport. Rail will be the spines linking new and existing communities and providing the back bone of the nation's public transport.
Come and learn how these exciting new opportunities and funding sources will be tapped. We stand at the threshold of a new era for rail at the heart of the nation. www.ConnectedCities.co.uk
