Learn metalsmithing techniques in free form bezel making using a butane torch. This one day course is perfect for the adventurous beginner. Christina will be teaching you how to make a sterling silver bezel mounting with a beautiful assortment of semi precious gemstone cabochons, and turn it into a pendant or ring in this one day intensive. In this three part course, we’ll go over in depth the properties of silver, how to use sheet metal and wire to achieve your design goals, how to form + file a bezel, how to saw out a backplate (new skill!), how to make your own ring or pendant mounting, as well as learning how to set your semi precious gemstone into your freshly made mounting. You'll come away with a beautifully bezel set piece with a sparkling gemstone, all handmade by you! Some examples of the stones that will be available include: sunstone, rose quartz, rutile quartz, fluorite, labradorite, onyx. Feel free to bring your own cabochon or piece of sea glass less that measures up to 1”.Skills Covered: differences between fine metal and its properties, metal forming techniques, hammering metals, butane torch soldering, gemstone setting. This is an Adult class, students must be at least 18+ years old.
Prerequisite: None, this is a great introduction to beginner metalsmithing techniques.
