About this Event
Discover the art of typography through a hands-on workshop where you will set metal type just as Ben Franklin, Johannes Gutenberg, and countless fine press printers have done. Learn the fundamentals of points, picas, type size, leading, and sorts—the essential elements of crafting a beautifully printed 'calling card', contain a short poem, prose or lyrics of your choosing.
Participants will spend about two-thirds of the workshop composing their text through hand-setting, working with spacing material and proofing each piece. The remaining time will be printing your text-based composition. At the end of the workshop each student will get a compiled portfolio of cards printed that day.
This workshop is perfect for enthusiasts of type and letterforms, poetry lovers, avid readers, and anyone who enjoys creating something truly beautiful.
