La Sonnambula, tells the story of Amina, a young woman engaged to local farmer, Elvino. When Amina is found in Count Rodolfo’s room while sleepwalking, she is falsely accused of infidelity, leading to a cancelled wedding and public shame.In this new production, Rolando Villazón—the tenor who has embarked on a brilliant second career as a director—retains the opera’s original setting in the Swiss Alps but uses its somnambulant plot to explore the emotional and psychological valleys of the mind.
