Please join us at Bank Square Books for a reading by James Merrill Fellow, Ayten Tartici. Ayten is a Turkish-born writer based in New York City. Her essays have appeared in The Atlantic, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, Slate and The Yale Review among other places. She is currently writing a nonfiction book on four prominent women artists and writers that blends memoir with cultural criticism. She studied Government and Comparative Literature at Harvard, before receiving her PhD in Comparative Literature Yale, where she was the recipient of the Gordon Barber Memorial Prize for poetry and the John Addison Porter Prize for best scholarship. She has previously taught literature at Columbia University and Georgetown, where she was an American Council of Learned Societies Emerging Voices Postdoctoral Fellow. She is an editorial consultant for 212 Magazine, where she hosts an interview series with contemporary poets.
