A soulful tribute to Begum Akhtar and Shobha Gurtu, this evening of ghazals and thumris invites audiences on a nostalgic journey, celebrating the unifying power of music.
The music of Begum Akhtar and Shobha Gurtu takes centre stage in a specially curated evening that blends performance with storytelling. Celebrated vocalist Sraboni Chaudhuri, a disciple of Shobha Gurtu and a familiar voice at the Khazana Festival of Ghazals, joins Tushar Bhatia, acclaimed sitarist, composer, and music presenter, to reimagine the timeless repertoire of two legendary artistes.
The programme journeys through their immortal ghazals and thumris, enriched with anecdotes, memories, and context that reveal the depth of their artistry. Begum Akhtar, fondly remembered every October on her birth and death anniversaries, and Shobha Gurtu, whose centenary was marked last year, come alive through this homage.
Supported by Dnyaneshwar Sonawane (Harmonium), Farooque Latif Khan (Sarangi), and Ashish Jha (Tabla), the performance is both a concert and a tribute—a chance to experience classic works anew while rediscovering the stories, connections, and legacy that continue to unite audiences through music.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
