Merchant Navy Day acknowledges the brave men and women of the Merchant Navy, who in both World Wars kept our Island nation afloat. In peacetime, they have faced, and continue to face, the routine perils of violent storms and mountainous seas.On Wednesday 3 September, we will remember Merchant Navy Veterans by holding a flag-raising ceremony at the Town Hall at 10am. The Red Ensign Flag raises awareness of our island nation’s ongoing dependence on Merchant Navy Seafarers.
