In “Public Lies, Private Truths,” Mercer University Opera looks closely at relationships and how they grow and change over time. The evening begins with Leonard Bernstein’s uncompromising, semi-autobiographical look at an idealized marriage in his discomfiting and amusing "Trouble in Tahiti." Three bridesmaids bemoan their dresses and the groomsmen with whom they are paired in Lisa DeSpain’s charming "Men I’m Not Married To." Finally, the behavior of a young, up-and-coming bachelor politician is called into question in Dan Shore’s enchanting "An Embarrassing Position."All performances take place in Neva Langley Fickling Hall in the McCorkle Music Building. All performances are $20 General Admission, $10 student ID.
The performances of Trouble in Tahiti are by arrangement with Boosey & Hawkes, Inc. Sole agent for Leonard Bernstein Music Publishing Company LLC, publisher and copyright owner.
The performances of An Embarrassing Position and Men I’m Not Married To are produced by permission of E.C. Schirmer Music Company, publisher and copyright owner.
