Returning to Trenton City Museum, it’s the biennial juried Mercer County Photography exhibition!
Call for Art from photographers who LIVE, WORK, AND/OR ATTEND SCHOOL in Mercer County, NJ: Enter up to two photographs for consideration by 2024 Juror Gary D. Saretzky. In 2022, work by photographers from every municipality in Mercer County filled the walls of Trenton City Museum’s art galleries. Enter for a chance to be in the show!
This exhibition is supported, in part, by the Mercer County Cultural & Heritage Division, through a grant from the NJ State Council on the Arts. The show is a co-sponsored project of the Division and Trenton City Museum.

CALENDAR
Submission of Entries: Saturday, October 5, 9:30 am – 12 noon
Accepted work posted: Saturday, October 5, 9 pm
Pick up of work not accepted: Monday, October 7, 11 am – 3 pm and Tuesday, October 8; 11 am – 3 pm
Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony: Saturday, October 12, 2 pm-5 pm with awards ceremony to begin at 3:45 pm
Closing Day: Sunday, December 1
Final Pickup: Monday, December 2, 11 pm – 3 pm; Tuesday, December 3, 11 am – 3 pm
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists, eighteen years or older, currently living, attending school, or employed in Mercer County. Images must have been created within the past three years utilizing photographic processes including black and white photography, color photography, non-silver process, book art and computer processed photography. Work must be appropriately presented for gallery installation. Two-dimensional work must be framed and properly wired for hanging.
ENTRY PROCEDURES: All work must be delivered by hand to the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie, 9:30 am – 12:00 noon. Unaccepted work must be retrieved 11:00 am – 3:00 pm October 7, or 11:00 am – 3:00 pm October 8.
ENTRY FEE: $10 for each entry, up to two entries per individual, payable in cash or check made out to the Trenton Museum Society. Please write Mercer County Photography 2024 on the memo line of checks. The Trenton City Museum receives 25% percent commission of all sales to help fund future Mercer County Photography shows. Work does not need to be for sale to be entered.
REPRODUCTION RIGHTS: Submission of entries acknowledges the right of the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie and the County of Mercer to reproduce all or part of an entry to publicize and otherwise promote the exhibit, artists, events, and venue.
AWARDS: Monetary and merit awards include: Best in Show, Juror’s Choice, Honorable Mentions, and Mercer County Purchase Awards.
Juror Gary D. Saretzky, archivist, educator, and photographer, taught photography and the history of photography at Mercer County Community College from 1977 to 2012. He also served as Monmouth County Archivist (1994-2019) and Coordinator of the Public History Internship Program, Rutgers University History Department (1994-2016). His past photography exhibits include “Dreams of Italy” at Ellarslie in 1998 and a retrospective at the Rider University Art Gallery in 2007. Substantial collections of his photographs of blues musicians are at the Blues Archives at the University of Mississippi and the Trenton Free Public Library. Saretzky has self-published two books of his photographs of blues musicians and as a photographer is a member of the Blues Hall of Fame. He co-curated the Margaret Bourke-White: In Print exhibit at Rutgers in 2006 and the 2024 Grant Castner photo exhibit at the New Jersey State Museum. Saretzky lectures regularly on the history of photography, has published more than 100 journal articles and reviews, and continues to photograph.
