Merced College Performing Arts Presents In The HeightsIn The Heights is a powerful and vibrant musical that explores the lives of the people in Washington Heights, a tight-knit, diverse community in New York City. Set in a neighborhood rich in culture and tradition, the story revolves around the struggles and dreams of the people who live there, each facing their own challenges as they navigate love, family, and their changing neighborhood.
At the heart of it is Usnavi, a young orphaned bodega owner who dreams of returning to the Dominican Republic. His story is one of both nostalgia and hope for a better future.
The show’s powerful message is that even as the world around us changes, the strength of community, family, and tradition continues to be a guiding force for all of us.
