About this Event
An expectation of all scientists at Sanford Burnham Prebys is effective communication with all members of our community. For scientists mentoring novice trainees (e.g., high school and college students), especially those from underrepresented groups, this adds an extra layer of complexity. In this 90 min workshop, we will discuss qualities of an effective mentor/mentee relationship – including identifying realistic goals, setting expectations, giving feedback, and addressing unforeseen challenges – and how to be a proactive mentor. Completion of this workshop will provide you with the resources to develop your own mentoring philosophy, a critical component for an aspiring mentor. Likewise, you will be equipped with the tools needed to support underrepresented scientists' development.
