Are you interested in expressing your mental health through art?
Join Abby (@make_district) every month at Alpkit Keswick to meet and chat over the course of 6 months with the intention of creating an art piece that is personal to you.
Each session can be used to chat anything you like and you can discuss ideas, brainstorm, drink tea, laugh, cry and eat cake, of course! Over each session you can continuously add to your canvas, depending on how you are feeling that day, express what you've been going though etc.
When the workshop is complete and you've created your final piece, we will hold an exhibition of your work one evening after store hours for anyone to come see, if you are happy to chat publicly about your work then that woud be awesome but there is absolutley no pressure to, please just let me know privately what your preference would be.
You are not obligated to disclose any personal issues and this is not by all means a professional therapy workshop, this is a social, community based project where we want to create a safe space where people can talk if they would like and put pen or paint to paper to express themselves. Abby is Mental Health First Aid Trained, so if you'd like to chat about anything privately, please pull her to one side and she will do her best to help.
Some art mediums can be provided but if you'd prefer to use your own, then please feel free to bring them along. The artwork can be stored here throughout the process but you are also welcome to take it home should you wish to.
Things that will be available to use in store are:
- Magazines / newspapers for collaging
- Glue
- Limited amount of paintbrushes
- Textured objects for printing
- Canvases
The cost of entry is for the whole 6 months.
We do not put events on to make profit, if we do charge its mainly to cover costs of refreshments and the staff members time. Any money raised from ticket sales and donations go straight to the Alpkit Foundation Charity.
The current dates scheduled are:
Thursday 16th May - (mental health awareness week 13th-19th) 6:30-8pm - this will be our first get-together
Thursday 27th June - 6-7:30pm
Thursday 18th July - 6-7:30pm
Thursday 15th August - 6-7:30pm
Thursday 19th September 6-7:30pm - Canvas should be complete by the end of this session
Thursday 10th October, exhibition evening - (world mental health day) 6:30-8:30pm
Tea/coffee and cake is provided, please let us know if you have any dietry requirements.
