Most of us would know how to help someone we see having a medical emergency (call 911!) – but too few of us know how to respond when we see someone having a mental health emergency.
It takes a village to move mountains of trash, and get folks the help they need along the way. To make us all a little more comfortable with how best to lend a helping hand during a mental health emergency, We Heart Seattle is investing in the community by offering a Mental Health First Aid training on Saturday, June 3 from 9:00am-5:00pm, facilitated by Union Gospel Mission’s certified instructors.
What is Mental Health First Aid?-
Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps you identify, understand, and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses.
Date: Saturday, June 3, 2023
Time: 9am-5pm (with breaks and lunch folded in)
Location: Securities Building, 1904 Third Ave. Seattle, WA
Fee: None! Sponsored by We Heart Seattle, at no cost to you!
Parking: The Securities Building has two attached (pay) parking garages with entries and exits on Fourth Avenue and Third Avenue
DETAILS-

- There will be some light pre-work in advance of the training
- Facilitated by WHS community partner, Union Gospel Mission, and their certified instructors
COURSE FORMAT-
You learn by getting involved with the material and relating what you learn to real-life applications. Discussion topics, exercises, and other activities keep you engaged in the course and give you an opportunity to practice helping skills. One or two certified instructors lead each course and follow a national curriculum and teaching standards, while emphasizing hope for recovery. Classes usually consist of 30 people or less and are offered in a respectful, comfortable environment.
