About this Event
Theatre and Dance NI (TDNI) is pleased to facilitate a two-day Mental Health First Aid Training course delivered by Kearns Training & Consultancy.
What is MHFA?
Mental health first aid (MHFA) is a 12-hour course, delivered by PHA-accredited Instructors, that teaches participants how to recognise the symptoms of different illnesses and mental health crises, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person towards appropriate treatments and other supportive help. The mental health first aid course does not teach people to provide a diagnosis or therapy.
The aims of mental health first aid are to:
1. Preserve life where a person may be at risk of harm;
2. Provide help to prevent the mental health problem from becoming more serious;
3. Promote recovery of good mental health;
4. Provide comfort to a person with a mental health problem;
5. To promote self-care.
Who is MHFA for?
MHFA (Adult) is for any person aged 18+ interested in learning how to assist other adults who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
- Please note – this programme covers important but sensitive topics including suicide, self-harm, depression, anxiety, psychosis and eating disorders.
It may not be suitable for you at this time if you are currently experiencing mental ill health or if you have experienced a recent major life event, such as a bereavement, trauma, or relationship breakdown, which might affect your ability to participate fully.
If you are experiencing distress or despair at this time, contact your G.P. or the LifeLine Service on 0808 808 8000. https://www.lifelinehelpline.info/
