Why Mental Health First Aid?
Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
How Blended MHFA Works: 2 hours of online self-paced coursework followed by a scheduled 5.5 -6 hour in person Instructor-led class (6 hrs including breaks). The In Person portion of the course is being held on Saturday, August 24th from 9:00am - 3:00pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church located at 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville, IL 60563
What it Costs: $25.00 (+ service fee)
The Mental Health First Aid Introduction is a self-paced e-learning course that consists of five segments and should take approximately two hours to complete covers:
- Overview of Mental Health First Aid
- Mental Health and Mental Disorders
- Role of the Mental Health First Aider and Self-care
- Common Mental Disorders in the U.S
- Recognizing Signs and Symptoms
The Mental Health First Aid Skills Application IN PERSON portion of the course ( consists of seven learning segments and covers:
- ALGEE: Mental Health First Aid Action Plan
- MHFA for Early Signs and Symptoms
- MHFA for Worsening Signs and Symptoms
- MHFA for Crisis Situations
- Self-care for the Mental Health First Aider
Prior to the in person instructor led session, you will receive an email titled "MHFA: Let’s get started!" that will contain log in information and steps that need to be taken to complete your pre-work. This pre-work needs to be completed 24 hrs prior to the in person training held on Saturday, November 16th from 9:00am - 3:00pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church located at 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville, IL 60563
