2026 starts with a Month of Mending! Want to get started fixing a favorite piece of clothing, or simply adding some pizazz to something in your closet? Get started with a mending class! Each Saturday in January, Anne from Rock Pigeon Vintage will host an hour-long intro class to various forms of fabric mending. Register now and explore something new in the new year!
Saturday, January 3, 2026 - 1pm - Basic Fabric Mending 101
Learn how to repair a simple hole in your clothing with a few basic techniques. No previous sewing experience needed! We’ll approach some simple tears (provided for class use, or bring something of your own!) with hand-sewing techniques that can bring new life to a slightly damaged garment or fabric.
Saturday, January 10, 2026 - 1pm - Introduction to Sashiko Mending - 1pm
This hour-long class will provide the basics of the Japanese sashiko mending methods, with a small project started on provided cloth. Build your experience with hand-sewn mending practices, learn how to create unique sashiko patterns, and mend or add new flair to your favorite fabrics.
Saturday, January 17, 2026 - 1pm - Introduction to Visible Mending
Don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good! Visible mending offers you the opportunity to breathe new life into clothing that needs a little CPR. Learn about ways you can mend, embellish, or reinforce clothing (even if you don’t have a hole or tear!).
Saturday, January 24, 2026 - 1pm - Oh Darn! Mending Socks and Hats
Darning seems like something from another time, but the practice of mending a sock, sweater, or other knit item is as old as, well, the invention of clothing. Practice darning on some socks that can use reinforcement, or bring a sock of your own to practice on. (or any knitwear item, from a knit hat to a sweater). We’ll get our hands busy with simple tools to complete the simple task of mending through darning.
Saturday, January 31, 2026 - 1pm - Introduction to Boro Mending
It’s like a crazy quilt for your everyday life! Boro mending combines embroidery stitching like sashiko with layered ‘scraps” of fabric to build a functional, practical final product that can be turned into a clothing patch, fabric coaster, or just beautiful stitch art. We’ll use fabric “scraps” and transform something that could be considered trash into a practical and beautiful sewn object! This class will build on sashiko techniques in earlier classes, but no previous sewing experience is needed!
