About this Event
Talented 16-year old violinist Casey-Joan Whyte performs Mendelssohn’s brilliant and famous Violin Concerto in our opening concert of the 2025 season. Casey was a member of the Lincolnshire Youth Orchestra before going to Chethams School of Music.
The concert opens with Berlioz’s Scène d’Amour. Part of a much larger work, it vividly portrays the famous balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. French conductor and composer Pierre Boulez described it as “the finest single piece of orchestral music ever to come out of France”. Following the Mendelssohn Concerto, the concert concludes with Schubert’s melodic Fourth Symphony known as the ‘Tragic’.
