Providing support to heart disease patients, their families, and caregivers, Mended Hearts chapter offers peer-to- peer support, education, and advocacy; helps patients cope with emotional recovery from heart disease; and provides social, emotional, and practical support. After a major heart attack in 1986, Dan joined a Mended Hearts and served as President of the group for 11 years. He visited hospital patients twice a week. When he moved to Williamsburg, he founded a Mended Hearts chapter at Sentara Hospital and was active for as long as he was able.
