In a small Korean province in 1986, two detectives struggle with the case of multiple young women being found raped and murdered by an unknown culprit. The film, inspired by a play and based on real life killings, was the first masterpiece directed by South Korea's Bong Joon Ho, who would go on to co-write and direct the Oscar Best Picture winner Parasite in 2019 (for which he also won Best Director). It also marks the first collaboration between Bong and Song Kang Ho, who starred in Parasite.
