Being a hardcore fan of science fiction and fantasy, Memories of Bronze was a book I never expected to write. My mother was always the diehard mystery fan of the house, reading everything from Ellis Peters to Lilian Jackson Braun and watching everything from Miss Marple to Lovejoy. Because of her and my father, who enjoyed them too, I was raised watching British television more nights than not. While my classmates were engrossed in shows like Saturday Night Live and Family Matters, my family was watching Mystery! with Diana Rigg or Masterpiece Theatre. (I preferred Cadfael and Poirot.) Apparently, all that mystery content must have lodged deep within my subconscious. Once I finished the Release Day Saga and was evaluating what to write next, I couldn’t break away from the idea of a period British mystery. I wrote what is now the prologue of Memories of Bronze and sent it to my beta readers who loved the idea. I spent the next few years writing the manuscript, constantly joking about whether I would be remembered as the sci-fi author who wrote a mystery novel or the mystery author who wrote a few sci-fi novels—a fact that remains to be seen. Now if only Mom could be around to see it.
