**Saturday 15th November at 230pm.** CONCERT **The Norwich Gilbert and Sullivan Society will stage a “Sullivan Memorial Concert” at St. Cuthbert’s Church, Wroxham Road, Sprowston, Norwich NR7 8TZ on Saturday 15 November at 2.30pm.
This event will commemorate the 125th anniversary of the death of the famous Victorian composer Sir Arthur Sullivan. The concert will feature a number of local soloists including Teresa Clayton, Beverley McInnes, Pam Warren, Kevin Jeckells, Patrick Monk and Tim Hurst-Brown. The organist will be Richard Cockaday, while Beverley McInnes and Peter Woods will accompany some of the soloists.
Although Sir Arthur Sullivan is chiefly remembered for the scores of the comic operas he wrote in collaboration with W. S. Gilbert, he composed a great deal of other music. The concert will include songs from his grand opera “Ivanhoe”; music from two of his oratorios, “The Light of the World” and “The Prodigal Son”; several piano solos; a number from “The Rose of Persia” (a comic opera with words by Basil Hood); “The Long Day Closes” and Sullivan’s famous song “The Lost Chord”. There will be two organ pieces, and two hymns will be sung with tunes composed by Sullivan.
Refreshments will be served during the interval.
Entry to the concert is free, but a suggested donation of £5 is encouraged to help defray expenses.
