Bodmin Folk Club is blessed with numerous fine members who are performers in their own right and Tim Joyce is one of them. These days, Tim Joyce is usually to be found plonking his acoustic bass in the four piece folk band , River Blue, who are in the process of recording an album of self- penned songs about Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and Fridays sees him as a regular at Bodmin Folk Club.
Tim was given his first plastic ukulele when he was about seven and his love of all music started then. His earliest influences were the American folk blues players inspired by hearing Big Bill Broonzy on his big brother’s record player and from there he explored all things Americana.
Tim started playing in a folk band while at college in the early 70’s and inspired by the exploding folk revival and the growth of groups like Pentangle, Incredible String Band and Fotheringay, discovered the joys of Folk clubs around London. There followed a fleeting moment of fame in the late 70’s playing bass in a harmony pop band and then years as a teacher in a London Comprehensive when music became the escape to relax for fun.
Since retiring to Cornwall, he has been busy promoting live music in Probus where he helps run a monthly acoustic Sing Around and developing his six string guitar skills.
