Artist Charles Willson Peale’s life size portrait "The Artist in His Museum" is one of the first and most striking works you’ll encounter in the Taubman’s special ticketed exhibition, "Making American Artists: Stories from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 1776-1976."With a flourish and big reveal, the artist proudly shared a “Cabinet of Curiosities” featuring natural specimens, dinosaur bones, artworks, and more that were displayed to inform and instruct the viewer.
During this month’s special Member Hour, Deputy Director of Exhibitions Katie Hirsch will provide artistic and historical insights into Peale’s "The Artist in His Museum" along with a review of the Taubman Museum’s very own cabinet of curiosities.
Please check-in at Visitor Services when you arrive, and we will meet in the Atrium and go to the galleries together.
Join us in the Glassroom immediately afterwards for light refreshments and conversations with fellow members.
Reminder: Members are encouraged to bring up to two paying guests with them to each Member Hour.
