We’re heading to Boston! Let us worry about the traffic as we travel together by bus to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (ISGM) for a day of art and exploration. In anticipation of the upcoming exhibit, Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the Museum’s collection with time left for you to explore on your own. Curators from our staff will be traveling with us to lend their expertise to our trip. Transportation, Museum admission, guided tour, and lunch, plus an exclusive virtual talk by our Director of Exhibits, Dr. Elysa Engleman, who will share insight into the upcoming Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass exhibit at Mystic Seaport Museum, are all included in the registration fee. Dr. Engelman’s virtual program will take place on Thursday, September 29 at noon. It will be recorded and sent to all registered trip participants.
About the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum:
A major source of inspiration for founder Isabella Stewart Gardner to create this now iconic Boston Museum came from her time in Venice at the Palazzo Barbaro, a Venetian palace owned by Bostonians Daniel and Ariana Curtis. The palazzo became the gathering place of a group of American and English expatriates, including the painters John Singer Sargent and James McNeil Whistler. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, constructed between 1900-1902, is a Venetian palace comprised of three floors of galleries surrounding a courtyard with Italianate windows that transport you back in time. The galleries are filled with Stewart Gardner’s impressive, diverse, and eclectic collection of European, American and Asian art, including sculpture, paintings, furniture, ceramics and textiles, spanning many centuries and continents, including works by Michelangelo, Raphael, Rembrandt, Titian, Matisse and Degas.
