A little piece about Katelyn......
Katelyn Buckley hails from Kildinan, Rathcormac, Co Cork, and has always been
captivated by the stage. Her passion for performing started at the very young age of 3
when she played ‘Goldilocks’ while still in playschool ‘Tiddley Winks’ Castlelyons.
Not long after this, Katelyn begged her Mom to let her join a newly opened ballet
classes with ‘Take5’ Studios in Rathcormac village and so began her journey into the
world of Theatre. She quickly followed this by starting drama classes with the renowned
actor Valerie O’Leary Drama. Getting her first Feis Maitiú medal under the tuition of
Sally O’Leary, at the age of 6.
Having truly now caught the bug, Katelyn started Ballet and tap in ‘Starstruck Studios’
and Musical Theatre, ‘Brightlights’ and commercial dance with ‘Montfort College of
Performing Arts’. In 2021, for her transition year Katelyn took the brave step to further
her education & skills by moving to Dublin to begin a 2 year full-time dedicated training
Diploma Course at the College of Dance. ‘My time at College of Dance has not only
deepened my appreciation and love for all aspects of performing but also honed my
skill set as a versatile performer in all disciplines.’
Katelyn has also been a member of the Irish Associates programme with ‘Morea Performing Arts College’, Cheltenham
2023/24, having workshops in Dublin once a month. She is delighted to have been accepted as a member of the ‘British
International Youth Musical Theatre Academy’ and is looking forward to working on various projects and workshops in the
coming year and performing for the first time on a London stage before the end of the summer. Also this summer Katelyn
is thrilled to receive a Summer Scholarship to study at the ‘Institute of the Arts’ Barcelona.
Katelyn is now teaching with the Montfort College of Performing Arts in their Glanmire Studio on Saturdays and
Wednesdays with ‘Dublin Contemporary Dance Studio’. For the last few years Katelyn has worked regularly with Niamh
Dunlea, ‘Funky Kids’, doing children’s parties, Summer & Easter Camps and with Santa at Christmas.
Katelyn has performed on most Cork stages including Cork Opera House Panto ‘Cinderella’ 2016/17 and every year with
the Montfort of Performing Arts with their end of year showcase. The Everyman Theatre (‘Joseph and his amazing
Technicolour Dreamcoat’, 2013, ‘Legally Blond’ 2018 – Montfort), Firkin Crane (‘Wizard of Oz’ 2017, ‘Sleeping Beauty’
2018 Montfort) Cork Arts Theatre ( Drama Showcase 2018 /2019 Montfort) . Fermoy Youth Centre Panto ( ‘Sleeping
Beauty’ 2014, ‘Jack & The Beanstalk’, 2015, ‘Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs’, 2016, ‘Rapunzel - A Tangled Panto’,
2018, ‘Alice in Pantoland’, 2020). Katelyn is also a member of the Fermoy Musical Society gaining valuable experience
both on and off the stage; (Magical Musical Moments 2018 ‘South Pacific’ 2019.) The Helix Dublin (College of Dance
Showcase – 2023, 2024).
Eager to expand her horizons and education, Katelyn has set her sights on abroad! And her dedication and hard work has
not gone unnoticed, as she has been offered a place in no less than 5 prestigious Colleges: L.A.I.N.E. Performing Arts
Theatre London, Bird College London, Morea Performing Arts Cheltenham, International College of Musical Theatre
London, Performers College Essex. Each college expressing their eagerness to work with Katelyn and recognizing her
exceptional talent and potential.
Before setting off to pastures new, Katelyn is producing her very own show, ‘Melody Mix’ on the 8th June at the Fermoy
Community Youth Centre, to showcase all her training and hard work to date. ‘It’s like I’ve come full circle! Fermoy Youth
Centre is the first place that I considered doing my own show. It’s very close to my heart.’ says Katelyn, ‘I feel like I’ve
grown up and learned so much on that stage. Starting in the ensemble in Youth Centre Panto back in 2014, to playing the
lead in ‘Alice in Pantoland’ in 2020 at just 13 years of age. This was a fantastic experience. We did 9 sell out shows and
the experience it has given me I will never forget. Kieran, Catherine and all the staff at the Youth Centre have been
amazingly supportive and without them, I would not be able to put on my own show’.
While the thought of putting on her own show fills Katelyn with both excitement and nervousness -or as she calls it ‘nervecited!’ she relishes the prospect of it. Organising the stage, light, sound, programmes, tickets, costumes etc., it is a huge
task to undertaking but the support that Katelyn has received has been amazing. ‘Not only will I be performing myself, but
I have super talented group of performers from Cork, Dublin and London that are willing to give their time and talent.’
Some of the acts performing will be the Montfort Youth Choir, Starstruck Studio, Valerie O’Leary Drama, Niamh Dunlea’s,
‘Funky Kids’ and more to be announced.
