Melinda Mullins and The Layton Hollow Gals present The Johnny Mullins Collection Volume 2 at The Shoe Tree Listening Room at Arrow Art Annex, 1342 East St. Louis Street on Sunday, November 10 at 2 pm. Doors open at 1:30 for this alcohol free concert. General admission tickets are $20, and available at @arrowcreativereuse.org and at the door. Parking is across the street, with accessible parking in the back.
Melinda Mullins (vocals/guitar), Emily Higgins (vocals/guitar/mandolin) and Betsey Mae (vocals/upright bass) are the Layton Hollow Gals, named after the birthplace of Melinda’s father, the Ozarks’ Grammy-nominated songwriting elementary school janitor, Johnny Mullins. Johnny penned hit songs for the likes of Loretta Lynn, Porter Wagoner and Emmylou Harris, among many other artists.
Since 2013 Melinda has been on a legacy mission to share her late father’s body of work, much of which she has found in shoeboxes of old cassette tapes containing previously undiscovered songs. The Layton Hollow Gals will share "Johnny songs" with harmony, passion and a good dose of fun, weaving in stories of Johnny’s life in the Ozarks and origins of his songs. Melinda, Emily and Betsey are thrilled about this brand-spankin' new 2024 release featuring material from deep inside the shoebox that have been itching to come out and play.
