Described as the ‘owner of a voice capable of making you leave your body’, Ngulmiya’s internationally celebrated singing stems from a tradition that has developed over many thousands of years, on the remote coast of Arnhem Land.In his debut Melbourne Recital Centre performance, Ngulmiya presents stories and songs from his National Indigenous Music Award-winning self-titled, debut album. Using emotive, and minimalist arrangements including strings, piano, and synth as the base, and with his son and Arnhem Land songman, Nayurryurr Nundhirribala, by his side, this captivating performance of stories of ancient Australia and Nusantara puts his language, Wubuy, on centre stage.
Generously supported by the Robert Salzer Foundation.
