This February Odeon Richmond presents MelbBlitz.#4Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Steve Strange's death and celebrating his huge contribution to club culture, fashion, style and music in Britain through the late 70s and early 1980's, contributiong to the birth of the New Romantic movement which gave us Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Visage, Culture Club and many others.
In 1978, before their success with Visage, Strange and Visage partner Rusty Egan began to make a name for themselves as a nightclub host and DJ respectively. They began organising "Bowie nights" on Tuesdays at Billy's club in Soho, before taking over Tuesdays at the Blitz wine bar in London's Covent Garden in 1979,[2] which became the iconic Blitz Club. Adhering to Strange's strict door policy of admitting only "the weird and wonderful", the club took off and became an essential location in the rise of what would become the New Romantic movement.
Steve also famously appeared to David Bowie's iconic 'Ashes to Ashes' video.
Steve tragicly died on 12 February 2015 but tonight we toast the style icon that was Steve Strange.
