Sweet and just a pinch of sassy, join Maia Alexandra for a fun mini Melaya Leff choreography!This workshop will go over some of the basic history and stylization of the Melaya (Millaya/Malaya etc). This outer garment was used originally as a modesty garment, later becoming the basis of a folkloric fantasy tableau dance. Come see what it's all about!
Bring your Melaya (or your heaviest, widest veil). Dancing in heels is optional, but extra credit!

Maia Alexandra is a multi-award winning Belly Dance performer and teacher based in Buffalo, NY. A dynamic dancer with a flair for fun, Maia is best known for her on stage charisma and technical ability. The 2010 “Ms. International Ambassador of Bellydance” has been a featured dancer and instructor at many prestigious festivals and events including Rakkasah’s Spring Caravan, the Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive, the Art of the Belly festival, Unmata’s Blood Moon Regale, Saqra’s Showcase, and many more.
Maia’s style is best described as “Modern Vintage”. This blending of West Coast dynamics and solid technique is her specialty. She brings back the old school American cabaret feel with a fresh new perspective, bridging the gap with a sense of humor and savvy moves!
