About this Event
The Gimuy Walubara Yidinji Elders Aboriginal Corporation and community are honoured to host the opening of the Meganesia show. The evening, respectfully supported by the Gimuy Walubara Elders with greeting and welcome with the spirit of cultural connection and protocol.
Meganesia is a powerful contemporary dance work presented by Gaba Musik at Bulmbaja. This will be a preview of the main event for PNG’s 50 year celebration of independence in Port Moresby.
Artistic Director , Airileke, brings together some of the most celebrated dancers, musicians and choreographers from PNG, Zenadth Kes, West Papua and Bama (First Nations) drawing from shared ancient history, dances, family ties and songlines.
The contemporary music created by PNG Australian Producer Airileke, alongside Sorong Samarai, and First Nations artists Yirrmal & Deline Briscoe is the soundtrack. Prepare yourself for a fresh urban mash up of Naka Beats, Yalanji Soul, Yolngu Roots and Island Party Vibes.
Before the end of the last ice age, 11’000 years ago, Papua and Australia were one land mass… Meganesia. Join these Bama, PNG and Zenadth Kes performers who are coming together in Gimuy (Cairns), for one night only, to bring you Meganesia.
