FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR ERIN A. CRAIG COMES

THIS SUMMER’S MOST ANTICIPATED GOTHIC THRILLER

HOUSE OF ROOTS AND RUIN

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

In a manor by the sea, one sister is still cursed. . . .

New York Times bestselling author Erin A. Craig makes her triumphant return with the

highly anticipated HOUSE OF ROOTS AND RUIN (Delacorte Press | On sale July 25,

2023 | Ages 12+), a Gothic thriller-fantasy that explores the sinister side of ambition,

doomed love, and the ghosts that haunt us. Set in the same world as Craig’s winning

debut, House of Salt and Sorrows, but following different characters, the story will

appeal to fans of the previous novel while also standing completely on its own.

Twelve years after the events of House of Salt and Sorrows, readers find the Thaumas

sisters scattered across Arcannia. Despite dreams of adventures far beyond the Salann

shores, almost-eighteen-year-old Verity has remained at Highmoor, lending a helping

hand to older sister Camille. When Mercy sends word that the Duchess of Bloem—

wife of the celebrated botanist Gerard Laurent—is interested in having Verity paint a

portrait of her son, Alexander, Verity jumps at the chance but can’t understand why

Camille won’t allow it. Only when an argument breaks out between the two does

Camille reveal the truth: Verity is still seeing ghosts; she just doesn’t know it.

Stunned, Verity flees Highmoor that night and—with nowhere else to turn—makes her way to Bloem. At first, she is

captivated by the lush and luxurious province and is quickly drawn to Alexander Laurent, finding the heir charming, witty,

and impossibly handsome. But it’s not long before she is plagued with nightmares, and the darker side of Bloem begins to

show through its sickly-sweet facade.

In HOUSE OF ROOTS AND RUIN, Erin A. Craig has imagined a world that is captivating and immersive, with a sense of

dread so palpable, one can’t help but turn the pages to see what will happen next. A modern Gothic full of scorching

romance and masterful twists and turns, this is a book that will leave readers with their jaw on the floor come the very

last page.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Erin A. Craig has always loved telling stories. After getting her BFA in Theatre Design and Production from the University of Michigan, she stage-managed tragic operas filled with hunchbacks, séances, and murderous clowns, then decided she wanted to write books that were just as spooky.

Craig burst onto the scene in 2019 with her debut novel House of Salt and Sorrows, a Gothic fairy tale inspired by Grimm’s “Twelve Dancing Princesses,” which captivated critics and readers alike.

Described as “a haunting, atmospheric, and immersive story” (BuzzFeed) and “a devouring and page-turning read” (BookPage), it became an instant New York Times bestseller and was named a Wall Street Journal Best Science Fiction Book of the Year and an Amazon Best Book of the Year. She followed suit with the critically acclaimed Small Favors (2021), which was loosely based on the fairy tale “Rumpelstiltskin.” This dark retelling captivated both young adult and adult readers, who were drawn to its glittering prose, breathtaking romance, and bone-chilling horror. It was also an instant New York Times bestseller, further cementing Craig as a rising star in the literary world. Craig’s novels were acquired and are edited by VP/Senior Executive Editor Wendy Loggia at Delacorte Press.

An avid reader, a decent quilter, a rabid basketball fan, and a collector of typewriters, Erin makes her home in West Michigan with her husband and daughter.
