During the 19th century, mules acted as the "engines" of the C&O Canal by pulling boats from Georgetown to Cumberland, MD. Today, the park mules help to preserve and share the history of the canal by providing visitors with unique experiences and tangible links to the past. Join us at the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center and meet the park mules - Eva, Dolly, Jen, and Julie. During the program visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of mules and the canal and how the park works with and takes care of its current mule team.
This program takes place outside the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center in Potomac, MD. Please note that the program may be altered or cancelled due to weather conditions or staffing.
