About this Event
Are you ready to have some fun playing in the park at night? If so then this event is perfect for you!
Play Frisco's Natural Resources Division and the Blackland Prairie Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists are hosting an evening mothing event during the 2024 City Nature Challenge.
WHAT IS MOTHING?
Most moths are nocturnal, so we will have several light sheets set up to attract moths that live in the Park. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and help with identification. Bring a magnifying glass if you have one because many of these beautiful moths are exceedingly small.
WHAT IS THE CITY NATURE CHALLENGE?
This event is part of the City Nature Challenge 2024! This is a global event where cities around the world participate in documenting all of the bugs, birds, plants, fungi, and anything natural with iNaturalist. It’s easy to participate – any and all iNaturalist observations made in Dallas/Fort Worth this weekend (April 27 – 29) will automatically count!
WHERE IS THIS EVENT?
Participants will be contributing to the collection of biodiversity data at one of Frisco's newest natural areas, Grand Park. Meet at the parking lot located on the south side of Cotton Gin Road, directly between Legacy Drive and the Dallas North Tollway.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
Wear outdoor clothing and footwear that’s best for trekking through the Texas wilderness. Pants, long sleeves, bug spray, sunscreen, waterproof footwear, a flashlight, a magnifying glass, and an insect net are highly recommended. Bring your cell phone, water, snacks, and camp chairs too!
Contribute your observations and see results by visiting https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/mothing-at-grand-park.
