Come and meet Charlene Wheat from Mooi Silver Jewellery at the Heritage Centre for the first of this year’s ‘Meet the Maker’ events.Charlene designs and handcrafts sustainable artisan jewellery in her studio near Sunderland.
“I started out creating jewellery as a hobby in 2000, and even made my own tiara and jewellery when I got married. Then in 2008 I decided to take the plunge into building a jewellery business. Over the years I have evolved from making various types and styles of jewellery into what it is today.
I create sterling silver jewellery with some pieces incorporating sea glass collected from the local coastline. My designs are minimal with an infusion of organic formation, taking inspiration from nature and the local coastline. Each piece is completely handmade by myself in recycled silver, using both modern and traditional smithing techniques.”
A selection of Charlene’s work is available to purchase for a short 2-week period in our shop or directly from her on the Meet the Maker Day (Saturday 22nd March 10am – 4pm), where you can browse, purchase or commission a bespoke piece of jewellery.
