Meet The Filmmaker : Katie Wolfe ( Ngāti Mutunga Ngāti Tama, Ngati Toa Rangatira) Director of The Haka Party Incident Christchurch, we bring Katie Wolfe to you!
Following the screening of The Haka Party Incident at Lumiere Cinemas at 6:15 PM on 27th August (make sure you get your ticket to see the film, https://www.nziff.co.nz/2024/otautahi-christchurch/the-haka-party-incident/) we will meet for a Q & A with director, Katie Wolfe, which will be moderated by Vanessa Wells.
In 1979, a group of young Māori and Pasifika activists sought to stop Pākehā students at the University of Auckland performing a parody of haka each capping week. Unfortunately, the consequences for those activists were severe – many were convicted of crimes. Director Katie Wolfe uncovers this largely forgotten event in our history with interviews from both in this resonant and thought-provoking documentary.
The Haka Party Incident was rescued from historical oblivion by writer and filmmaker Katie Wolfe – originally as a play commissioned by Auckland Theatre Company and first staged in 2021. The film cleverly intertwines multiple interviews from both sides of the confrontation, both recent and from around the time of the incident.
Katie Wolfe is a multi-talented director, writer and actor hailing from Aotearoa New Zealand, with an impressive career in both film, television and theatre. She has won critical acclaim for her work, particularly for her most recent theatre piece The Haka Party Incident and films Waru, This Is Her, and Redemption.
Don't miss this opportunity to to hear from this multi-talented director!
