About this Event
Sam and Konni will introduce you to the basics of wildlife-friendly gardening with fruit trees. You’ll learn what to consider when introducing trees into your own garden, and how to give them the best chances of establishing well. The first part of the session will be indoors, exploring some principles. During the second part, we’ll visit the Chaul End community orchard, in the meadow just behind the Community Centre (2 minutes’ walk). You’ll learn how to identify different fruit trees and you’ll be able to try out some hands-on tree care activities like weeding, watering and mulching. Time permitting, you’ll also learn some basic site survey skills, and see a short summer pruning demonstration.
Please wear sturdy shoes. If the weather is very sunny, please bring a hat or wear sunscreen, and bring some water, as it can get hot on the site.
