About this Event
Historical fact and fiction collide as tartan-mad enthusiasts worldwide join the Clan Buchanan family to mark the inauguration of their newly confirmed Highland chief at an elaborate celebration in deepest Perthshire, Scotland. For Mexican Pedro Buchanan, and two American sisters, in anticipation, feelings of the ‘motherland’ are stirred. But with no clan chief for over 300 years, and few ancient sources to draw on, ceremony and ritual are unashamedly being invented.
Millionaire landowner Mike Buchanan is the husband of Paula (Lady Buchanan); father of Angus (now the ‘Heir’), Bruce (now the ‘Spare’), Lucy, the new ‘Maid of Buchanan;’ and young Rory, fresh from the exclusive Le Rosey private school in Switzerland.
His ambitious wife Paula is planning the inaugural three-day bonanza of tartan ceremonial at their magnificent Highland house and estate. She was the driving force behind Mike’s claim to the title and is now the chief architect of his ‘coronation’.
Join the family in ‘stranger than fiction’ style as a hidden world of British wealth and privilege unfolds observing the family uncover and invent fresh entitlements the new role brings.. revealing not only whether they can pull off this massive event, but also how History is made (up), and who makes it. Raising important questions around class, national identity, historical values and traditions, and the place of ‘Clans’ in our modern global world.
