Now that there are two bison at Lords Park Zoo again (and mayyyyybe a third coming soon?), we bring back our very popular monthly (February through October) Meet the Bison program! Learn about the importance and history of the North American bison, how the species has been brought back from the brink of extinction, how Takoda and adorable young Buffy came to Lords Park Zoo, and their daily lives.
Then, we'll take you behind the scenes of the zoo into the bison AND elk sheds where few people other than zoo personnel are usually allowed, for close-up looks at these amazing animals. (But please understand, this is not a petting zoo experience!).
So that the animals aren't overwhelmed with close human presence, attendance is capped at 15, several taking turns in the sheds at a time. Minimum age is 5. Cost is $5 per person; Museum members may arrange for two free slots per year.
YOU MUST REGISTER AND PRE-PAY. We can take payment over the phone; best times to reach us at the office - (847) 741-6655:
Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, 8-2
Friday, 8-1
Saturday-Sunday 12-4 (you can also come in to pay during these public open hours)
Keep trying if you don't get an answer; sometimes we are teaching classes and no one is available to answer. For more information and to arrange for a time we can call you for payment, send an email to Director Sharry at:
