[PL PONIŻEJ] We’re extremely honored to invite you to a meet-the-author with Juan Martinez, during which we will talk about his work, inspirations and experiences with language.
Juan Martinez – a writer and an associate professor of English at Northwestern University and the author of the horror novel „Extended Stay” (University of Arizona Press / Camino del Sol, 2023) and of the short story collection „Best Worst American” (Small Beer Press, 2017). Fiction editor for Jackleg Press. His work has appeared in various literary journals and anthologies, including Glimmer Train, Ecotone, McSweeney's, TriQuarterly, The Sunday Morning Transport, Small Odysseys, Conjunctions, National Public Radio's Selected Shorts, Norton's Sudden Fiction Latino: Short-Short Stories from the United States and Latin America, and The Perpetual Engine of Hope: Stories Inspired by Iconic Vegas Photographs.
One of his short stories, „Esther (1855)” was translated into Polish by Agnieszka Hałas and published in Nowa Fantastyka magazine, issue 11/23, available at our Fantasmagoria library.
Juan will be calling in via Zoom, but we would love you to come to our library to spend some time in the company of other book-lovers! The meeting will be conducted in English. The person running the meeting will however help translate any audience questions from Polish to English for those lacking confidence in their speaking abilities.
