About this Event
What to Expect
If you visit a Muslim cemetery, you may be surprised at the variety of colour and designs of the graves - from tiles, to granite, to wood. How are these grave monuments designed, and what do they mean? Join Terry, founder of Dapur Kubur Singapore, as he takes you through the process of carving granite and the meanings behind each element of a Muslim grave - from the differences in Batu Nisan (tombstone) for male, female, or child graves, to the inscriptions that adorn a grave.
About Meet My Craftsman
The rites and rituals that accompany one’s last journey are often elaborate and require a great deal of care. Meet the craftsmen who have dedicated their lives to the preparation of items used in our funerals; down to the last detail.
About the Organisation
Dapur Kubur Singapore prides themselves in the crafting of Muslim grave monuments, shaping and engraving granite according to their customer's wishes. Driven by the belief that their service helps to alleviate the grief caused by the departure of loved ones, they have also expanded their service offerings to custom monuments and even upkeep of older graves.
About the Host
Terry humbly confesses that he does not know how he ended up in his profession as a batu nisan engraver - but as he and his team painstakingly engrave, paint, and inlay stacks of marble and granite, it is clear that he works with purpose. A Muslim revert, Terry began his journey as a funeral director for Muslim funerals, and eventually developed his own process for engraving these elaborate monuments.
