About this Event
Meet Me at the Source is a community-rooted project by artists Heaven Jones (@frankoceansmum), Shayla Marshall (@shaylamonii), and Phillip Norville (@philovian). This project is developed along NW 79th Street, tracing a living corridor from Shayla’s home, to Heaven's family business across the street that became their art studio, to show Phil's family owned business, and extending to the former USA Flea Market site honored through the project. This historically Black neighborhood in Miami, now facing ongoing abandonment and gentrification, serves as both the subject and setting for continued documentation and celebration.
As part of Green Space Miami’s public programming, the project partners with #Photowalk305 to host a guided photowalk along this historic stretch. The walk will begin at Heaven’s family owned art studio on NW 12th Avenue and concludes near Phil’s family business and the former flea market site on NW 32nd Avenue. Designed as a collective documentation and storytelling exercise, the photowalk centers community memory, place-based narratives, and visual preservation.
The program will be cohosted by photographer Lou (@cloudmanlou), a Haitian-born photographer from Miami. Cloud's work centers archiving subjects and places from the community he was raised in. His experimental photography is reflective of cultural celebration and memory. He will be leading the walk alongside Shayla to intentionally engage and uplift artists and photographers connected to the area.
The walk will last approximately one hour, with transportation provided at the conclusion to return participants to their vehicles.
