"A novel of huge humanity...The arrival of a major new voice in SF."—The Guardian
If you're a sci-fi fan, you won't want to miss the chance to meet Silvia Park, author of the 2025 novel "Luminous," at the KU Edwards Campus!
Silvia Park is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at KU, where she teaches fiction. Park's most recent novel "Luminous" tells the story of three estranged siblings—two human, one robot—as they collide against the backdrop of a murder investigation to settle old scores and make sense of their shattered childhood.
Her specialty slants speculative, applying it as a lens to render the strange ordinary and the ordinary strange. Her fiction won the 2018 Fiction Prize from the Sonora Review and was chosen as a finalist for the 2019 Black Warrior Review Contest. Park's stories have been published in Black Warrior Review, Tor.com, The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy, and elsewhere.
Before her stint at KU, she taught creative writing at Oberlin, the University of Utah's Asia Campus, and NYU, with courses ranging from Speculative Fiction to Digital Storytelling.
This speaker series, which originated as a partnership with the Lawrence Public Library, provides audiences with an opportunity to hear KU authors talk informally about books they have recently published, taking us behind the curtain to explain why they embarked on these projects, what they found, and why their projects matter.
