About this Event
The first of the month-long series of events is our official launch in Room 11, Rochester Adult Education Centre, Eastgate, on Saturday, 1st March.
Inspiring speeches and a performance from the Brompton and Invicta Military Wives Choir, with a chance to meet the team behind Medway Women’s History Month, and find out more about the programme ahead.
Spaces are free and you can turn up on the day. However, if you'd like to book a ticket, we have enabled the donation button. The team are all volunteers and as such have no funding, although a bid has been submitted to The National Lottery Community Fund.
Doors will open at 1pm with the following schedule:
1.20pm Keynote Speech – Nina Gurung, former Mayor of Medway.
Nina was the first Buddhist to become a mayor in the UK, and is dedicated to empowering women and girls to reach their full potential. Of Nepalese descent, Nina has been instumental in promoting community cohesion and produced seminal research on integration and settlement for Gurkas in the UK.
1.45pm Introducing Adelle Martin of Stronger Together Through Cancer.
Co-founder of STTC, Adelle embodies the ethos and objectives of the charity. Stronger Together Through Cancer CIC is a dedicated, safe centre in Kent and Medway for micro business owners seeking help on how to navigate support, advice and guidance along with easy access to personal and professional services so they can continue to run their business whilst managing the impact of cancer.
2.30pm Performance – The Brompton and Invicta Military Wives Choir.
The local branch of the much loved Military Wives choir, who bring women in the military community together for singing and support, will perform for us to bring the launch to a close.
