About this Event

This Halloween, join author Bethany Walker and illustrator Katie Abey to celebrate a real monster - MEDUSA! Their new, hilarious book, Medusa Gorgon's Bad Hair Day, is a fun twist on Greek myths, with twelve-year-old Medusa sent to the twenty-first century as part of her punishment. Learn about the Greek myths that inspired this book, do a draw-along with Katie, and make your own seriously serpenty headdressssssss - perfect for Halloween!

Twelve-year-old Meddy Gordon has serious anger issues.

In this hilarious book for middle-grade readers, Meddy rants about family and friendships, using her diary as a way of letting out her anger and keeping her emotions in check.

So far, so normal. You know the kind of thing: frustrations with her self-absorbed sisters; problems with idiotic classmates; disagreements with pompous teachers; and, of course, her troubles dealing with the occasional flock of owls, swarms of snakes, or even the odd many-headed dog.

And then there's the small problem of the snake hair that appears if she doesn't control her anger...

You see, Meddy Gordon is not actually from the twenty-first century. She is, in fact, a human from ancient Greece and she has made a powerful enemy.

Meddy G is MEDUSA and she just happens to have angered Athena, the goddess of war. And what happens when the goddess of war is on the warpath? You get a bad day. A very bad day indeed.

Beth and Katie will chat about the book before leading you in a draw-along and headdress-making workshop!

Bethany Walker is the author of funny children's books, including Olly Brown, God of Hamsters, How to Steal the Mona Lisa and Do Lions Hate Haircuts? Bethany studied History at Nottingham, and worked in museum education before becoming a children's writer. Her love of history and her time working in museums inspired Medusa Gorgon's Bad Hair Day. Bethany lives in Lincolnshire with her husband and two children.

Katie Abey is a creative human committed to the idea that she might just be able to make a positive difference to the world by drawing perturbed animals and lots of rainbows for a living. She used to view her deeply sensitive traits as a flaw but has now harnessed those characteristics into the superpower they are!
