MEDROCK was conceived by the Chattanooga Medical Alliance in 2014 to raise scholarship funds for college-bound children of allied healthcare workers in the Chattanooga area. Since its beginning, dozens of college dreams have launched and many of the past awardees have gone on to schools throughout the country, including University of Georgia, Belmont, Samford, the Universities of Tennessee - Knoxville and Chattanooga. Many MEDROCK recipients have achieved their dream careers in medicine, law, business, and education. For 2024, MEDROCK returns to Barrelhouse Ballroom on April 20 th as a benefit concert featuring last year’s participant Steelhouse Band, led by UT General Surgery resident Levin Fairchild, MD. The Gonzales, LA native has wanted to be a doctor for as long as he can remember, but music is still a true love and hobby. He continues to write and make music in his down time. Steelhouse Band formed when Dr. Levin Fairchild reached out via Craigslist in late 2014 to find other musicians looking to play similar types of music in venues across southern Louisiana. Lead guitar player Trey Fruge and drummer Scott Meade had recently left a band and were looking for a fresh start. Since that first meeting in a condo in Baton Rouge, Steelhouse Band has evolved into a 10–11-person band with a horn section and has played in venues big and small across the South.

Applicants interested in applying for the MEDROCK scholarship can go to the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga for scholarship applications at www.cfgc.org/scholarships. 2024 Scholarships will be awarded in May of this year.
